How to Grade for Learning
Sunday, July 12, 2009
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Presenter: Ken O'Connor
Assess for Success Consulting
Teachers are using standards as the base to link an increasingly broad range of assessment approaches with their teaching to improve learning. In many schools, however, there has been little change in grading and reporting practices. What is needed is the linking of standards-based classroom assessment to grading and reporting practices to make grades and report cards more meaningful. This interactive session examines standards-based grading and reporting practices and principles which capitalize on these new assessment approaches, encourage effective learning and support student success. Participants will analyze eight guidelines for grading which would really make a difference if they were applied in our classrooms, and will have opportunities to discuss implications of the ideas presented to their school/district.
