On-site Professional Development from ATI
Leading Professional Development in Classroom Assessment for Learning
In 2010, Assessment Training Institute can come to your district and help create a cadre of staff ready to lead and manage the learning team process using the ATI books Classroom Assessment for Student Learning and the companion Learning Team Facilitator Handbook. Depending upon the level of knowledge/experience of participants, this can be delivered in a one-day or a two-day workshop for up to 60 people.
Training Goals:
- To deepen understanding of assessment for learning practices and the keys to assessment quality
- To become familiar with the format and content of ATI classroom assessment materials
- To be able to give brief presentations on the benefits of assessment for learning to students, teachers and schools
- To be prepared to plan and manage a learning team experience using professional development materials from ATI
Who Should Attend:
This session is designed for educators who have continuing professional development responsibilities. This could include building and district administrators, staff development and curriculum specialists, teacher leaders and classroom teachers selected to provide staff development and leadership to their colleagues in this area. The content is not designed as direct instruction specifically for the classroom teacher. The professional development for teachers is contained in the ATI materials/program used in the learning teams, not in the workshop presentations.
The ATI Professional Development Model in Classroom Assessment:
We have created our professional development materials books, interactive videos and user guides for use in the context of collaborative learning teams. Many studies of professional development delivery models have shown that ongoing, job-embedded study and discussion are significantly more effective in causing change than stand-alone workshops.
Responsibilities Prior to the Workshop:
During the workshop, we will prepare participants to lead others in learning more about classroom assessment. To prepare for this role, we ask that participants complete a reading and viewing assignment prior to attending the session.
Materials Participants Will Receive:
- Our central text, Classroom Assessment for Student Learning: Doing It Right—Using It Well, and accompanying CD and DVD with additional resources and hands-on practice designed for learning teams
- The Learning Team Facilitator Handbook and DVD
- Several journal articles describing the effects of assessment on student motivation and achievement
- Rick Stiggins’ new DVD, Developing Balanced Assessment Systems, packaged with the white paper, Assessment Manifesto
- A notebook of handouts and resources for presenting introductory ideas to others
- A CD with the notebook contents and all PowerPoint presentations and handouts needed to conduct introductory activities
